“The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7
Sadly not everyone shares the same sentiments that God does. As man looks at the ethnic lines (outward appearance), we cannot become the people He created us to be.
Do not be part of the ‘small-minded’ group that sends our beautiful land into flames. Do not!
What we hear and see on our televisions, iPads, tablets, smartphones and radios is saddening. Leaders; people with power are feeding us with lies that such a nation as ours is divided among ethnic lines and no lie, it’s taking a toll on us. But the wise will remember John F. Kennedy’s words, “No matter how big the lie; repeat it often enough and the masses will regard it as the truth.”
We need individuals and leaders who have a vision broad and brave enough to see, embrace and harness the incredible strength in our diversity.
How many times do we go for a movie and the person seated next to us is from a different ethnic community? Or the one we take for a date? How often do we go to church and hug our neighbor with God’s love; then what happens afterwards? In class, who helps you do your calculus assignment and signs the class list in your absentia? Who plaits your hair and who tailors your suit? Aren’t they from a different ‘tribe’? The groceries that you buy, are the farmers that planted them from your ethnic community? The teachers that instill knowledge into your kids, are they? You live in a city that is inhabited by people not from your community and you are here thinking we are divided?
Who is your best friend?
In no way am I pushing for the end of our culture. Don’t get me wrong. It is wonderfully enriching to have a sense of heritage, to know and understand the ethnic background that helped shape the individuals we are. We need to look at our Kenyan culture as an incredibly rich tapestry, which has been woven together from many other cultures and backgrounds. Each strand is fascinating and meaningful in its own right. But it takes all the parts to be woven together to make up the amazing whole.
The devil is a liar! Remember the fall of man? He deceived and disillusioned man using his famous words, “Did God really say…” The words are still the same today, just painted with a different brush color.
Is it only this tribe that can lead? Do you think God loves insecurity in your land? Who says you cannot make a better leader? Do you really think there is a next time? – Exactly the same questions used at the Garden of Eden. Truly he is the ‘Father of all lies.’
As the intellect Dr. Ben Carson put it in his book, The Big Picture; “Continued racial [tribal] divisions within our society pose every bit as great a threat to our survival as a nation as any outside attack, be it from earthly or worldly enemies.”
2007/2008 was a nightmare; let today and tomorrow be a beautiful dream.
Love the unlovable, care for the careless, hug the ‘unhuggables’, be hope to the hopeless, practice kindness to the hurting and mercy to the merciless.
Be that as it may; let’s be united. United we can do more and this warfare on security; let’s fight it while on our knees. With our hands held together and our heads facing up – for it is impossible to wring our hands when they are folded before God in prayer – so that our children, grandchildren and ourselves may have a life, peaceful to enjoy.
I’m writing to you. You, who are reading, I know it’s hard to drive sense to someone who has been paid few thousands to wreak havoc and disturb the peace. But for those who believe their lives and country are worth much more than shillings plus their family time means more to them, let’s speak peace to our land. Be peace. I am peace.
